Turning Pain into Purpose

What better way to celebrate Women’s History Month than by spotlighting a leader who is making an undeniable impact? Meet Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) COMMANDER ERICA WEBER, the powerhouse overseeing the Northeast Florida Criminal Justice Training Center—where thousands of law enforcement officers and recruits receive top-tier specialized training.

With 19 years of service, including time in JSO’s Special Assault Unit, Cdr. Weber brings a wealth of experience to her role. But what truly sets her apart is her raw honesty and unshakable dedication. In a deeply personal conversation, she opens up about her own past—surviving child abuse and sexual assault—and how those painful experiences have fueled her mission to protect and uplift others.

Her journey has not only shaped her as a leader but has also made her the boss that everyone wants to work for. From spearheading initiatives to remove firearms from individuals struggling with psychological and emotional challenges to championing the use of mental health support dogs within the sheriff’s office, Cdr. Weber is a force for change.
